Seacourt certified as the highest scoring B Corp printing company in the world

Seacourt printers have been recognised as the highest scoring B Corp media company in the world.

Seacourt have been printing in Oxford since 1946 and have been a sustainability trailblazer since they realised just how damaging the printing industry was back in the late 1990s.

For over 20 years, Seacourt has been pushing the boundaries of what was thought possible. Developing a planet positive printing process, achieving zero waste to landfill over a decade ago, visiting the Queen on three occasions and being recognised as the most sustainable SME in Europe are some of their proudest achievements.

Planet Positive Printing

Planet Positive Printing™ is about having a positive net impact on the Environment, Society and Economy. For Seacourt, this is the idea that no one should feel they need to apologise for printing, but they realise that they can contribute by commissioning printing, supporting the environment. This is likely to be in the form of supporting critical principles such as the circular economy and clean energy.

It’s about creating a sustainable business that gives back more than it consumes.

Seacourt have now taken complete ownership of the environmental impact of their entire supply chain and their outputs. With the support of Empathy Sustainability, they carried out an extensive assessment of their actual business impact – both within the factory and in the supply chain so that they can take responsibility for their businesses effect in its entirety.

Seacourt’s recent magazine explains more about how they work closely with clients to print materials to give back to the environment they consume.

B Corp

Seacourt has recently been certified as the highest-scoring B Corporation printing company globally, an incredible achievement.

Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. B Corps are accelerating a global culture shift to redefine business success and build a more inclusive and sustainable economy.

Seacourt is now part of a community of over 3,500 businesses globally that are certified as B Corps. The B Corp community in the UK, representing a broad cross-section of industries and sizes, comprises over 330 companies and include well-known brands such as The Guardian, innocent, Patagonia, The Body Shop, and organic food pioneers Abel & Cole.

Better Business Pack

In 2017 Seacourt approached the OxFutures programme for a grant to create a resource that other SMEs could utilise, regardless of sector.

Working alongside Jake Backus (Head of Sustainability at Seacourt and MD of Empathy Sustainability), Seacourt created a nine-step roadmap that all businesses could follow at their speed, helping them transition to working within the low carbon economy. In doing so, futureproofing their business, making a positive contribution to the world around them, and demonstrating a leadership agenda to all stakeholders.

“The ‘Environment’ is a big subject, and unless you have specialist knowledge to hand, it’s challenging to know where to start or the most impactful things you can do to make a positive difference.”

GARETH DINNAGE, MANAGING DIRECTOR, SEACOURT

Seacourt received a grant from OxFutures to develop a website that could be a free online resource for businesses to improve their sustainability.
